Agroforest projects in Senegal
Since 2018 we have started preparations in Senegal to set up agroforestry projects in the Sub-Saharan region of Senegal. The feasibility study was completed at the end of December 2018 and we will start in the first semester of 2019 on two sites.

Results first count September 2019:
The first count results are poor. Several factors are behind this;
- the lack of a good fence high (>150cm) and small measly (10x10cm) that was promised to us
- weak monitoring and surveillance of the site, too few seeds sown
- the lack of a proper working procedure at different levels
- a lack of basic knowledge and experience of the socio-economic situation in the field and no or weak technical knowledge on the part of the former local team.
This pilot site will probably have to be resown by next rainy season 2020 if it is to be successful.
Results 2020:
Decision not to build new sites in Ranérou in 2020.
Because of Covid-19 it is not possible to replant the former land (2019) before the rainy season of 2020.

Counting results December 2019 of the 60 ha site are good. We counted 967 trees per hectare.
Results 2020
- Our Delfino plow has been well restored this time by a Senegalese professional. Especially the hydraulic technique needed a lot of maintenance to make the system work properly. After the first tests at the beginning of January 2020 it was clear that the half moons had the right depth, width and length.
The Senegalese team consisting of Barry Yaya and Saïdou Ba regularly check the site following the one of 2019. 150 ha has been constructed (see photo). See also report 2020/04
- Because of Covid-19 we were forced to stop the works. See also News page April 27 2020
- The new 150 ha site was revisited by the operational team after the lockdown (June 10). Assignment was given to harvest seed by the women. The women then sacrificed the seeds (slightly bruising the seed coat) and mixed the seeds with goat manure. The land was then sown by the women's community. See also report 2020/06.

The 5 villages (1000ha)
This large plot of about 1000ha is located near five villages and will be sold on plan by Kadoboom:

+ Diallo Foul
+ Windou Diabi
+ Wouro Ndiané
+ Kadou Diélali
- All villages will be involved in making this area fertile again.
- Construction is planned for March 2020 (season 2020-2021). Work temporarily halted due to lockdown COVID-19. See also News page 27 April 2020
